Join Bookmans in welcoming the fabulous and festive Brook Adams for a live performance of the Beatles' album "Abbey Road" using only his voice and his ukulele! Adams will be at Bookmans Grant on Friday, March 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Adams, a Pacific Northwest native, has played at many festivals, including Northwest Folklife, Seattle Bumbershoot, Oregon County Fair and the Portland Ukulele Festival. He graced the Portland, Oregon premiere of the film "Rock that Uke" and has also opened for the Japanese ukulele queens, Petty Booka. Adams has several CDs available: "Cowboy Gypsy Party Music" (Marmalukeys, 2007); "Abbey Road On Ukulele" (Solo, 2008); and his latest CD, "Tunnel Of Sharks" (Marmalukeys, 2009).
A self-described "ukulele madman with a strong voice and guitar chops too," Adams says his collection of novelty songs, tv themes, modern pop and swing-era classics is a "musical cartoon of the 20th century." His claim to fame is playing the Beatles' "Abbey Road" album start to finish on the ukulele. Adams says that it took a long time to figure out all of the songs, and the hardest part was making arrangements where the low notes went down further than a ukulele can play.
"I play everything in the original key except for 'Here comes The Sun' and one other, I can't remember which. The first time I performed it, it had a surprising effect on an audience. I think for people in my age range (52), it takes us back to our youth and that's a happy place to visit," says Adams.
Don't miss out on this fantastic trip down memory lane this week with Brook Adams at Bookmans Grant. More information on Adams can be found here on his website.
