It's been one heck of a season for the Arizona Derby Dames! The league bid a fond farewell to its original home, the Castle Sports Club, with a nail -biting and heart-pounding championship game as the Runaway Brides defeated the formerly undefeated Brutal Beauties. So what better way to get ready for the new home at the Veteran's Coliseum than by throwing all the rules out the window and taking on the Valley's own lawless ladies of the rink, the Renegade Rollergirls, one day before the Dames toast the best skaters in the league at Rollerbrawl!
Nearly every girl in the Arizona Derby Dames jumped at the chance to break free of the rules and play the Renegades in the Feast of Fury, Friday, Nov. 14th at Madison Events Center in downtown Phoenix. Only a few girls, including Coffin Dragger Heather Skelter and Schoolyard Scrapper Lolo, had the speed, strength and skill to make up the team that will represent the Arizona Derby Dames. The Renegade Rollergirls play roller derby with only one rule: there are no rules. For the Renegades, anything and everything goes! With veteran skaters such as Mayhemily and Magnum taking to the rink, fans are guaranteed to see a true, "full-contact" race on skates!
The Madison Events Center is located at 441 Madison Avenue in downtown Phoenix. Doors open at 7 p.m., Feast of Fury starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, $2 off ticket price with a non-perishable food donation. Kids under 12 are admitted for free.
Then why not celebrate the Dames' incredible season by coming to Rollerbrawl: Heaven 'n' Hell at the Sets in Tempe! Rollerbrawl is an annual awards show in which the Dames cast their votes for Best Pivot, Best Blocker, Best Jammer. But it's not all about the game! Best Rack and Best Lady Lumps, aka bum, are also up for the league's vote.
Rollerbrawl: Heaven and Hell is an over 21 event, tickets are $10. The Sets is located at 93 N. Southern Avenue, Tempe. Doors at 7 p.m. Award ceremony starts at 8 p.m.
And don't miss the Arizona Derby Dames at the Veteran's Coliseum for the league's 4th season. It's been a long journey and three successful seasons at the Castle Sports Club. Now the Dames move to the Madhouse on McDowell with 15,000 seats; this is largest venue roller derby has ever seen. Arizona Derby Dames 2009 season begins January 31, 2009 with all five teams bouting. Please watch www.arizonaderbydames.com and www.myspace.com/azderbydames for further details. And be a part of history!
