Bookmans News

This weekend at Bookmans is packed with great springtime events, so let's usher in the nice weather and say goodbye to the rain and snow! All of our events are family-friendly and free, so bring everyone along for a fabulous time. Just a reminder that the Knotty Harper Band at Bookmans Mesa and the Fusion Belly Dancing class at Bookmans Phoenix are cancelled this weekend. Check out what's happening at a Bookmans near you:

Friday, March 19 (evening):

Bookmans Ina - Comic Create - Live Demonstration: Join us for a live art experience in honor of Arts & Crafts Month and the upcoming Phoenix Comic Con!! Local Tucson artists, including Greg Mannino, Jonnie Allan and other fabulous comic artists, will be in the store offering live demonstrations of the artistic process for comic art. 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

MADCAP Theatres, Tempe - Bookmans Underground Cinema Presents: The Slammin' Salmon: The Broken Lizard gang is back with The Slammin' Salmon (2009), a rowdy comedy that spends a night in a restaurant of the same name. Boxer Cleon Salmon (Michael Clarke Duncan, 1999 Academy Award nominee for The Green Mile) owns the swanky eatery and needs to raise fast cash to settle a gambling debt. He challenges his hapless crew to a contest to see who can up-sell the most in order to reach his goal of $20,000 before closing time. Director Kevin Heffernan sets a rapid-fire pace loaded with pratfalls, spit takes, food fights, and bathroom humor. The Slammin' Salmon brings together the usual Broken Lizard (Club Dread, Supertroopers, and Beerfest) regulars: Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Steve Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, and Heffernan (as the jittery manager). Cobie Smulders and April Bowlby round out the cast as frenzied waiters who'll do anything to avoid a "broken-rib sandwich" from the intimidating Salmon. Screenings Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:00, 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. Tickets $8.

Saturday, March 20

Imagine a lovely little fairy flying from the rearview mirror in your car or truck. Or, maybe gracing a window -- anywhere you want a touch of whimsy. Bookmans will supply all necessary items for constructing your Button Fairy. If there’s an image of a loved one you would like to incorporate into your fairy, bring a color copy, not an original,as we will be cutting it up and you don’t want to lose your only copy of a dear one. If you have any buttons from clothing that belonged to a dear one, please feel free to bring them with you, for a loving tribute. As we will be using sharp wire and cutting tools, we ask that participants be over the age of 13. 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
