This weekend, Bookmans' Phoenix and Mesa stores kicked off Video Game Challenge Month (that's May!) with the first of the challenges at their stores. Over at our Mesa store, we teamed up with the Devastation team and hosted a Super Street Fighter IV tournament for teens and adults 14 and older. The competition was tough indeed, with a huge tournout! More than 50 matches were played, but only one came away with champion's bragging rights. After the dust cleared, "Juicebox" was our grand prize winner, with "Mr. SNK" and "Flook" coming in a close second and third, respectively. A special thanks to Robb and the Devastation team for helping us out with this event.

 

 

 

 

At our Phoenix store we held our first kids' tournament, screeching and squealing around virtual corners with the Mario Kart tournament on Wii. And it was indeed a challenge. The kids told us of the long hours of practice they'd put in over the last few weeks to prepare for the big race. A total of 27 kids (13 and under) participated in our tournament, and they all went home with a great goody bag, full of candy, gift certificates and the infamous golden coins! Peachy Keen Cakes made "one-up" and "super star" pull-apart cupcakes for the event (a big thanks to them!) but what Super Mario related dessert wouldn't be awesome? After the road warriors had each had their turn, the winner was Justin! John and Kimmee put up a great fight, too, coming in second and third places, respectively. Thanks to everyone who came out, and see you all at the races!

Kids (13 and under) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii, Saturday, May 15, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For the kids' challenge we're going to be smashing it up with Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii! The challenge begins at 3:00 p.m., but you'll need to sign up beforehand to compete. Sign ups are from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the same day as the event.

Adults (ages 14 and up) - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for XBox360, Saturday, May 22, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We're calling in an airstrike for our adult video game challenge. Come duke it out in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Sign ups start at 6:00 p.m., and the tournament begins at 7:00 p.m.

Gamer's Masquerade Ball and Costume Competition, Saturday, May 28, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. You're invited for an evening of gaming fun and celebration -- come dressed as your favorite video game character and compete for some amazing prizes, including a $100 Bookmans gift certificate for best costume!

Teens & Adults (ages 14 and up) - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on XBox360, Satruday, May 15, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Be one of the first gamers in Phoenix to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 tournament style on the Xbox 360. Bring your skills, bring your friends, and bring your best for this two player vs. two player team deathmatch! Registration is day of event, sign in begins at 1:00 p.m. and the tournament starts at 2:00 p.m. Bring your own controller, wired only. No wireless controllers.

Mesa:

Kids (13 and under) - Mario Kart for Wii, Saturday, May 15, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Start your engines and get racing! Challenge other racers in a 4 player game of Mario Kart. We'll provide the racing wheels, you bring your need for speed! Every kid will go home with a surprise just for signing up! Registration begins at 1:00 p.m. and the races start at 2:00 p.m.! We'll see you at the races!

Orpheum Theatre:

Kids (13 and under) - MarioKart on GameCube, May 22, May 22nd, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Videogames will be on the big screen with Mariocart on the Gamecube for kids with great prizes! Sign ups begin at 9:00 a.m., and the challenge will start at 10:00 a.m.! Snacks and drinks provided. Bookmans Flagstaff will be buying and selling at this event.

Teens & Adults (ages 14 and up) - StreetFighter on XBox360, Saturday, May 22, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For the adult challenge we're going to be throwing punches with StreetFighter for the Xbox 360! The challenge begins at 12:00 p.m., but you'll need to sign up beforehand to compete. Sign ups are from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the same day as the event. Bookmans Flagstaff will also be buying and selling at this event! Snacks and drinks will be provided.
