Bookmans News

It finally feels like winter in Flagstaff again and some of us are pleased that our ski hill will stay open! It is blustery and white outside, and folks are using our café as their own cozy refuge. Some of us love the snow and want to get out into it. January is "Here's to Your Health Month" at Bookmans and up in the mountains we think there's no excuse for not getting outside for exercise! We have snowbowl for skiers and snowboarders and lots of sledding hills. One of our other favorite places is the Flagstaff Nordic Center where the big snowshoe race is being held on Jan. 21. Bookmans is proud to help sponsor the race!

The snowshoe race supports Friends of Flagstaff Future, a local nonprofit that works to promote a viable and ecologically sustainable future for Flagstaff. The event is sponsored in part by Kahtoola, manufacturers of exceptional snow travel systems. Kahtoola is a socially responsible local company concerned about the environmental future of Flagstaff. There are races for all ages, from a family-friendly 1K run and walk, the only-for-the-fit 5K, and the 10K Arizona State Championship and USSSA Regional Qualifier for the true athletes in the bunch.

Bookmans will have two runners/snowshoers represented (watch for the green Bookmans jersies) in the 5K and the 10K categories. Our 10K runner will likely be Angi Christiansen, an exceptional athlete and 22-year veteran of Bookmans. Friends of Flagstaff's Future will be on sight providing children's activities and childcare. Sign up to race or just check it out at the Nordic Center website.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
