We hosted the Bookmans Video Game Challenge: Mario Kart Double Dash for gamers 13 years and under at all of our stores (except Mesa, due to the remodel) this past weekend - and it was a battle royale! A huge thanks to the kids (and their support teams of family and friends) who turned out to watch the action on the virtual track, and a mighty congratulations to all of our winners!

Bookmans Grant (by Cody)
We had 12 kids sign up for our Mario Kart competition last Saturday and it was a close match! Miles S., age 11, was the first one here to sign up and the last to leave, taking with him the grand prize trophy. He won a Mario pinata filled with toys and candy, a goodie bag, and a $100 Bookmans gift certificate. Second and third place winners were Elijah H. and Michael T.. Good job, guys! Everyone had a lot of fun.

The gamers in control.

Bookmans Phoenix (by Lori)
Sixteen kids raced to the finish for big prizes! It was an exciting, nail biting, and at times quite funny challenge to say the least. Not many places offer a Video Game Tournament just for kids, and I was proud to host the first one at Bookmans Phoenix. Man, were these kids competitive! Who wouldn't be with prizes like a $100 Gift Certificate and a Mario Kart inspired painting? Watch out world.

After a very intense hour of elimination three top challengers emerged. Thank you to everyone who participated and I hope to see you next time around! Congratulations to: First Place Winner, Nicholas G., Second Place Winner, Caleb S., and Third Place Winner, Cody C. You all rocked!

The competition gets fierce.

Bookmans Ina (by Audrey)
The first Bookmans Youth Video Game Challenge held at the Bookmans Ina location ROCKED! We had a lot of great kids come out for the event, playing Mario Kart Double Dash. A huge thank you to all of the kids who participated - your constant encouragement of one another was amazing, and you made this event a big success.

I would like to put a spotlight on our top three winners: in third place we had Brandon, who won $25 dollars in Bookmans trade credit and took home a gift bag courtesy of Bookmans. In second place was Andrew who won $50 dollars in Bookmans trade credit and he also took home a gift bag courtesy of Bookmans. Our big winner for the challenge was Myles who won $100 dollars in Bookmans trade credit, he also took home a Super Mario pinata filled with candy iand toys, as well as a Bookmans gift bag, and he got to keep the leaderboard from the tournament. If you missed this great event, no worries, we have a lot more fun stuff planned for the summer.

Make sure you don't miss our next video game challenge which will be held on Saturday, May 30th for gamers 14 years of age and older. Check out our events calender for more details. Once again, a huge thank you to all of the kids who participated - you guys (and gals!) made this event ROCK!

Nicholas, First Place at Phoenix.

Bookmans Flagstaff (by Kate)
Twelve brave kids entered Flagstaff's Videogame Challenge last Saturday and here were our winners:

First Place: Gage Griffin
Second Place: Sergio Cardenas
Third Place: Tristan Brooks

Also, our goodie bags were very cool with old-school candy, practical joke sets, pop-its, Mad-Libs and other classic toys that annoy parents.

Bookmans Speedway Winners
First Place:  Brian M, age 13
Second Place: Miguel C, age 11
Third Place: Tyler R, age 11

Enjoy these snapshots from the event and see more in our Flickr! And if you're wondering who did the rad Mario painting for Phoenix, that would be Joe G of the Bookmans Phoenix Electronics department.
