One of my greatest and simplest joys in life has been my beloved pets. Our family malamute, Okie, was a proud, intelligent family guardian. Kallie, a golden retriever and my parents’ current dog, is a huge love bug and lapdog. My current dog, Reggie, is an Airedale, but a breeder reject due to his pink nose (a fatal flaw, apparently), is best friend to us all, including my 13-month-old daughter Maxine. He is gentle, funny, and affectionate. We adopted him about six months before my daughter was born, and I realize that, for my daughter, he will always have been a part of our family. I can’t even begin to think of the day that he’ll leave us.
In fact, we’ve been thinking lately that he could use a little friend to help keep him company when we’re all at work and school during the day. Luckily, the last Sunday of each month, Bookmans in Flagstaff hosts an animal adoption from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. with Paw Placement. The foster parents of both dogs and cats bring the would-be pets into the store in hope that they’ll find permanent homes. Many animals have already been adopted at Bookmans, and we hope to provide opportunities for many more to find happy homes!
So, if you ever feel like a member of your family is missing, these Sunday morning adoptions at Bookmans might just be the best way to complete your household. Check out Paw Placement and take a peek at the animals up for adoption. Second Chance Center for Animals is another organization Bookmans supports, and another great place to find a new best friend.
