Bookman's Blog
Being a native Arizonan and having grown up in Phoenix for most of my life, I've always known that the Phoenix Metro area was massive. Until I was dropping off materials this past week for the upcoming Bookmans Reading Challenge, I honestly had not driven to a lot of these places. I've truly learned how large our city is. And I'm aware that I've only conquered a portion of it both personally and professionally. I was curious about how big the city really is, so what did I do? I googled it!
The Phoenix Metro area covers more than 517 square miles and has a population of over 1.5 million people, ranking it the fifth largest city in the country. Seems a little intense doesn't it? It's an incredible experience if you just take a moment to look at the city around you the next time you have that one hour or more commute.
For me, it means there are endless opportunities to seek out and meet a variety of people! Others who are passionate about making our city well-known for a positive community impact. Over this last year I have crossed paths with many unique individuals, community partners, and new friends. Each person brings something exceptional to the table, has inspired me to think outside of the box, and push my boundaries just that much further. I am lucky to work for Bookmans. I am surrounded by open-minded, creative, and passionate co-workers every single day! Each day brings a new and exciting challenge.
For now, I think I'll just take a deep breath and enjoy the rest of 2009 with those near and dear to me. I cannot wait to tackle 2010 with a whole list of new projects, people, and programs that I am inspired by!
