Bookmans News
Labor Day serves as a yearly national tribute to the social and economic achievements of American workers. Every employee, now and throughout American history, has contributed to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. In observance of the holiday, all Bookmans stores will restrict their hours. This Monday, Sept. 6, we will only be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mark your calendars so that when you come to visit this Labor Day holiday, you will be met with open doors.
Because it's Bookmans Fights Censorship month and because librarians are the keenest laborers around who work to ensure your access to information, Bookmans salutes librarians this Labor Day. Bookmans also thanks parents and other volunteers who stepped into the breach as school library clerks to put books in students' hands when budget cuts removed many librarian positions.
Here's what our FaceBookmans friends had to say about their favorite librarians:
* Casey Fogle: My very first and most favorite librarian was Mrs. Nelson, at Wheeler Elementary in Tucson. :)
* Mara Jones: When I worked at Ironwood Library in Phoenix, the young adult/vol coordinator Shelia (?)...Can't remember her last name, but she was amazing. Especially since the library was often used as an afterschool hangout for the middle schoolers.
* Cynthia Hernandez-Osuna: My favorite Librarian was Mrs. Minkey from Peoria Elementary. She took the time to read to us and was super patient when we described to her what kind of stories we wanted to read.
* Cathy Young Craigo: I was so lucky to have a wonderful librarian. Miss Graf is one of the reasons I love reading. She steered me away from children's books at a fairly young age and encouraged me to read anything and everything.
* Sarah Moe: Miss Valerie is the best children's librarian I have ever met. She even delivered hand-picked books to my daughter & I.
Bookmans recognizes the important role of librarians everywhere. Tell us about your favorite librarian by leaving a comment here or joining us on Facebook. Have a safe and censor-free Labor Day!
