"Go, Go Go Joseph you know what they say,
Hang on now Joseph you'll make it some day..."
Wednesday night I had the absolute honor of attending the Broadway Palm
Dinner Theatre's production of "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat" here in Mesa. The
Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre has been serving fine food and
entertainment to over 700,000 guests since opening its doors in 2001.
Dinner before the show had something for everyone, from perfectly
chilled salads, to Roasted Turkey and Gravy, and I don't even want to
get started on the wide array of desserts available. Dinner before the
show was timed impeccably, as to not make one feel hurried or rushed.
Having both seen Joseph in its early days on Broadway, and playing the title role myself in college, I was both anxious and curious to see Broadway Palm's interpretation of something I have such sentimental memories of. Needless to say, I was more than amazed at the level of professionalism and mind-blowing talent this production had to offer.
Patrick Darab who hails from Hickory, North Carolina, plays the role of Joseph. Patrick plays his Joseph with precise Happy Go Lucky (Any Dream Will Do), and in a blink, hits right on the mark, the raw emotion and humility the jailed and desolate Joseph calls for. (Close Every Door) This very talented young man is definitely one to look out for. (Thanks Patrick..now I'll be singing these songs again in my head for weeks!)

Virginia Cavaliere truly embodies the voice of an angel as the Narrator who tells the journey of Joseph. She carries on her shoulders, what I consider one the hardest roles of the play, and she executes it flawlessly. The Children's choir was performed by the Scottsdale Musical Arts Ensemble. All of this was well rounded by an equally talented and entertaining supporting cast. Edward and Jacob from "Twilight" even make an appearance!
Congratulations, Millie Garvey, you have done an outstanding job of directing, choreographing, and updating a true theater classic!
The Broadway Palm offered me a very entertaining evening and more than exceeded my expectations. Joseph will be playing until August 21st. Tickets are still available. Special thanks to Gary Kimble, Patrick Darab, & Virginia Cavaliere who took time after the show to happily pose for pictures!
Next up, Broadway Palm will be presenting "The Church Basement Ladies". A hilarious comedy that celebrates church basement kitchens and the volunteers that work there. The humor is delicious, the music is toe-tapping and the cast provides some heavenly entertainment. Showdates are August 26th - September 25th.
