“Jeremy Jackrabbit Harvests the Rain,” the first children's book written by Tucson Vice Mayor Rodney Glassman and his wife, Sasha, is a whimsical story on the importance of rainwater harvesting. The book’s wonderful illustrations are the work of numerous school-age children from across Tucson.

Since taking office more than two years ago, Vice Mayor Glassman has led efforts to pass two City ordinances that take effect this coming June, one requiring rainwater harvesting on new commercial construction; the other requiring that new residential be plumbed for graywater harvesting.

“Sasha and I share a vision that by enjoying this book together, parents and children will learn about the value of harvesting this wonderful water source that we all can use to nourish our desert landscaping,” said Glassman, who holds a PhD in Arid Land Resource Sciences.

The book was published with support from local sponsors, including: Bookmans, Tucson Medical Center, Patio Pools, Caliber Group, Comcast, Long Realty, Arizona Multi-housing Association, Cox, and Tucson Electric Power.

Copies of Jeremy Jackrabbit Harvests the Rain are available for sale for $10 at all Bookmans locations, with proceeds benefiting the Pima Library Foundation and the upcoming water-harvesting project at the Wilmot-Murphy Library.
