Bookmans News

At Bookmans we believe that every animal should have an opportunity to find their forever home, which is why we work with a variety of animal welfare groups throughout Arizona. Nearly every weekend we feature an adoption event in one of our stores, helping to connect our customers with the wonderful animals in need in our community. Unfortunately, HOPE Animal Shelter, a Bookmans favorite and Tucson’s only no-kill dog AND cat shelter, is struggling to keep their doors open.

Coda is just one of many loving animals at HOPE.

HOPE Animal Shelter is unique in that it provides a loving, no-kill haven for unwanted or abandoned cats and dogs. The animals at HOPE are provided with plenty of space and comfort, from climbing trees and beds to a large play area, and this setup helps reduce the stress the animals experience during their transition to a new forever home. HOPE makes sure that all feline and canine guests are well cared for emotionally, medically, and physically during this uncertain time in their lives.

Last year, over 375 animals found their forever homes through HOPE, and there are currently 80+ animals who depend on HOPE to provide them with shelter, food and love until they too can find the perfect family to take them home. The cost of the tremendous amount of care and comfort the animals at HOPE receive is somewhat daunting; Susan Scherl, executive director of HOPE, estimates that it costs around $12,000 per month to provide for the animals. She emphasizes that no donation is too small and even $5 will make a difference to the animals at HOPE. To learn more about how you can help HOPE, please visit their website - and be sure to check out the animal adoptions at your local Bookmans, there may be a kitty or puppy just waiting to come home with you! You can also follow them on Twitter.
