During the month of February all of our stores celebrate Love of Reading Month. When I think about where my love of reading started, I think of my sister Amy. When we were young she spent a lot of her free time teaching me how to read. I fondly remember reading every single Little Golden Book that I could get my hands on. Because of this, when I started going to school I was already ahead of the curve in the reading department! It allowed a smooth transition into school and a whole new chapter into why I loved to read. I was a huge fan of reading incentive programs because what child doesn't love to receive a reward for doing something they already enjoy? A few of my favorites included the Ramona series, "The Witches," and "The Indian in The Cupboard." Now, as an adult, I am able to share my passion about literacy in my everyday work and am surrounded by it constantly!
Encourage your child's (or little sister or brother's) love of reading and come meet author Erin Saelens this Saturday at Bookmans Phoenix where she will share her brand new book, "Cog Corner Goes Green!" It might just be your child's favorite new book, or it might spark their lifelong love of reading!

February 08, 2010
You know, the funny thing is that I absolutely hated reading when I was young. I sought every short cut I could when it came to assigned readings.
However, when I reached the age of 19-20 it was like someone flipped the switch in my brain and I just fell in love with reading. So much so that I have learned how to speed read and get through about 10 books a month now!
