I'll admit it, every once in a while I need a break from that vast mecca of information, the world wide web. Basically, unless it has been work-related, I've not been keeping up with the big happenings going on for the last week or so. But in the last few days, I realized how much information I've missed out on by not having been online. It's not like I don't stay informed, either--I watch the local news every single day, but there isn't a place for something like the "double rainbow" viral video (which now has over 4 million views), or the news that Harvey Pekar passed away earlier this week.
I asked a friend who has neither the Internet nor a smart phone what it felt like to not be connected to all of this information. His response was, "Like living in a cave. I had no idea that Harvey Pekar died." And he looked so forlorn about this information that I felt like I had given the bad news to a loved one. Then I took a moment to Google "double rainbow" for him. After getting around the scientific explanation, along with an ice-cream maker who claims that their product has been awarded "Best In America", I found the YouTube video and an article about Paul Vasquez and his search for a talent manager.
I'm happy I looked it up though, to take this journey with Paul and his moment of excitement, made my morning much much better. Without the technology that we now possess, Paul Vasquez would have never been able to share his experience with the world. That doesn't mean I'm done with my Internet break, though. I think I'll stay unplugged for just a little longer.
P.S. Speaking of ice cream, if you live in the Phoenix Metro area you have to try Sweet Republic, who just made it to the top of the list for the FNC Magazines “Top 10 places that will make you scream for ice cream”. Congrats ladies on being #1!
