Year round, the Arizona Browncoats are hard at work giving back to their community. What's a Browncoat? A Browncoat is a term applied to fans of the short-lived television series Firefly. The name is based on a nickname for the Independent Faction from the series.
Each summer Browncoats worldwide celebrate their love of the verse by hosting screenings of the film Serenity. A large portion of the proceeds are donated to Equality Now, an international charity that works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls.
Bookmans is happy to lend a hand for “Best Geeks With A Cause” as named by The Phoenix New Times "Best Of." By assisting with rental fees and through donations of prizes, Bookmans sponsorship allows the Browncoats to make the largest donation possible. After a lot of number crunching, the Arizona Browncoats proudly announced that they successfully raised over $9,000 at this year's Can't Stop The Serenity screenings. For the third year in a row, Tucson sent 20% of their proceeds to the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona, while Phoenix donated $1 of every ticket sold to MADCAP Theaters.
Join The Arizona Browncoats on the first Saturday of each month for their shindig at our Phoenix location! For more information please visit www.ArizonaBrowncoats.org
