On November 30th, an eighty-five foot tall blue spruce, harvested from the White Mountains of Arizona, will arrive in Washington, D.C. There the tree will be presented to the U.S. Congress, where it will serve as the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree for 2009. This is the first time Arizona has ever given the annual Christmas tree to the U.S. Capitol, and our state is delivering not only a tree taller than a seven-story building, but is including nearly 10,000 handmade ornaments and eighty companion trees that will be placed in offices throughout the Capitol complex.
Currently, the tree is traveling across America on its way to our nation's capital, and Bookmans is proud to be part of the caravan. When we learned that a car sponsor for the Capitol Christmas organizers was backing out in the 11th hour, we raced to secure a Prius. If you'd like to learn more about this historic project, you can visit the Capitol Chistmas tree website. Also, you can track the journey of the tree (and the Bookmans' Prius) via our Twitter page.
