Rocky Horror Picture Show

What cult classic has cannibalism, cabaret, criminology, and lots of comedy? "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" of course! If you want to cheer for that cheerful transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania, or you’re in love with the hero, heroine, or handyman, you can’t miss this show. Even if you’ve never seen "Rocky Horror," you must go in order to understand this cool piece of American film history.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is the longest-running release in film history, beginning in 1975. Relatively unsuccessful at first, the film eventually became a midnight movie hit in NY City starting in 1977. This film is not only fun, but has been the subject of study, including the book Reading Rocky that examines the film in light of a queer and cultural-studies perspective. We won’t give away the plot line, reminiscent of Frankenstein, 50s sci-fi and early horror with a lot of hedonism mixed in, but lets just say it isn’t vanilla, and you’ll want to leave the kids at home.

The show is interactive, and Flagstaff’s own Theatrikos theater group will be providing live action, prompts and props. We’ll feed you a line now, just to get you warmed-up: I wanna go, oh, ho, ho... ...to the late night, double feature, picture show!

Friday October 30th at the Orpheum Theater in Flagstaff. Showings at 8 p.m. and midnight. Doors open at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., respectively. 18 years and up. Tickets available at Bookmans and at the door for $5.
