Bookmans News

Starting this weekend, the Arizona Underground Film Festival (AZUFF) will be premiering the best of cult/underground films from all over the world in an 8-day event from September 18th through September 25th. Bookmans is proud to be a sponsor of AZUFF as part of our annual Fight Censorship campaign! The festival will be screening films from Sundance, Cannes, SXSW, Toronto International Film Festival, and Tribeca Film Festival. Categories from this year'sĀ festival include Narrative, Horror, Documentaries, Experimental, Animation, and it is the only festival to offer an Exploitation category.

The mission of AZUFF is to showcase the work of filmmakers with defiantly independent visions, and it strives to represent every genre of independent film from across the world. AZUFF will take place at The Screening Room, Fox Theater, Crossroads Cinema, Beowulf Alley Theater, and a screening at Madcap Theaters in Tempe, AZ. Festival Passes are on sale through our website, and are limited to 100 on a first come, first served basis. Individual tickets for each screening are only $7.

Bookmans has 5 FREE Festival Passes that we will be giving away to the first 5 people to comment on this news article and share their love of independent film. The passes get you into EVERY film for free, the after-parties, and the invitation-only closing night party with an open bar. So if you love film, you want this pass! The full schedule for AZUFF 2010 can be found here.

Independent films rock. With so much of what the studio system produces (film and TV) today being formulaic, recycled junk, independent films are often the only ones producing truly unique content. Independents are also one of the few sources for honest, hard-hitting documentaries. Studio system is often too afraid of taking on touch issues out of fear of offending advertisers..

I.F.s have also given starts to some great directors..

So many wonderful filmakers have started through their own Indie productions... "Robert Rodriguez and pal Quentin Tarantino" for starts...

Of course Bookman's Entertainment would be involved and supporting them because they are one of Arizona's best places to shop for the unique, cool and unusual without the big "rip-off" brand store names we all know, but don't mention.

Just fun to chill out there.when I can...
