This week, Bookmans in Flagstaff is celebrating Fight Censorship Month and Banned Book Week by hosting two great kids anti-censorship events.

At the Downtown Public Library, Friday October 1st, Bookmans employees will be holding a “Banned Book Story Time” featuring children's books by Maurice Sendak, Roald Dahl, and Shel Silverstein, among others. All of the stories read will be picture books written expressly for young children. Books will include James and the Giant Peach, In the Night Kitchen, Where the Wild Things Are, and Where the Sidewalk Ends.

In the Night Kitchen

At the Opheum Theater, this Saturday October 2nd Bookmans hosts a Movie Matinee of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, with kids crafts and activities beforehand. Crafts will include: Make your own Pygmy Puff- All Ages, Pencil Wands- 6 & up with adult supervision, a Golden Snitch Origami- moderate skill level 8-10 and up, Wizard Hats- All Ages. Activities will include: Be a Wizard...Dress Like a Muggle! Photo Booth: Wizards have their own wardrobe that is very different from the muggles. Try your hand at dressing like a muggle and get your photo taken! Sorting Hat- See where the Hogwarts Sorting Hat puts you! Will you be in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw? You could also be a Death Eater or in the Order of The Phoenix! Do you dare take the chance? Dressing up is not required but always encouraged! Snacks included. Harry Potter crafts & activities begin at 1pm, movie starts at 2pm. Kids get in FREE.

On Set

Harry is a boy wizard being raised by his hostile aunt and uncle. He begins his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he learns about magic, his own history, and becomes entangled in the mystery of the Sorcerer's Stone.
