Bookman's Blog
Bookmans Flagstaff is proud to be displaying the art of our talented Music department employee Reuben Jolley. Reuben's major influences include the obvious Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, but include the less obvious Anselm Kiefer and graffiti artists like Bansky.
Reuben claims his artistic style comes from his lack of technical proficiency, and says that, like blues and punk, he's learned to make due with what he's got. Thematically, he's interested in individuals with difficult reputations, and he likes to borrow from iconic religious imagery. He applies those images to people who have led less-than-saintly lives, since he claims that "true innocence often manifests itself through an inability to live by the artificial social constraints we all face; there's something diabolical about following all the rules."
Come to the Flagstaff Bookmans cafe to see work by this young artist worth watching.
See more of Reuben's artwork in our Flickr gallery.
