We're celebrating all things cinematic this month with a run of cult n' classic film series at your favorite community theaters, free screenings of movies in our stores, special appearances by the Arizona Ghostbusters, and more!
This Friday, August 7th, at 6 p.m., Bookmans sponsors Movies on the Square: Kung-Fu Panda in Flagstaff's Heritage Square. The evening opens with music by Tony Norris, plus a Bookmans gift certificate raffle and giveaways. Affordable food and drink is available and the show starts at sunset. Bring your blankies, camp chairs, and kiddos for this fun, free downtown event.
Also on Friday, August 7th and Saturday, August 8th: B-movie maven the Midnite Movie Mamacita presents a double header of the Inglorious BastardsThe Man from Deep River (1972) (1978) and at her new home on Mill Avenue in Tempe, Madcap Theater (former home of the Harkins Centrepoint). Passes for an advance Valley screening of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds will be given to several lucky viewers during both nights’ screenings. Inglorious Bastards starts at 9 p.m. and The Man from Deep River starts at 11 p.m. Admission is $8. Grindhouse Redux is sponsored by Bookmans Underground Cinema.
The Midnite Movie Mamacita and Bookmans Underground Cinema also present The Room, classic of abominable cinema, at Madcap Theater on Friday, August 14th, at 9 p.m. Admission is $6.
Bookmans Grant will screen the 3D version of Neil Gaiman's Coraline in the community room on August 14th, 3-4 p.m. We'll provide the popcorn!
Celebrate Tucson's birthday with Bookmans Made-in-Tucson Movie Madness at the Loft Cinema. The series kicks off on Saturday, August 15th, at 10 a.m., with a screening of comedy classic The Three Amigos, followed by Can't Buy Me Love on Saturday, August 29th, at 10 a.m. Both movies were filmed in Tucson and both will be screened absolutely free! We'll have great giveaways and prizes at each screening, including some fantastic $100 Bookmans gift baskets.
Bookmans is once again a proud sponsor of Can't Stop the Serenity in Arizona! Now in its fourth year, this fan-organized charity event raises funds for Equality Now, an international women's rights organization, with global screenings of Joss Whedon's film Serenity. Both Tucson (Loft Cinema on September 17th) and Tempe (Madcap Theater on September 19th) screenings will be double headers this year, featuring Serenity and Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. And finally, the Arizona Ghostbusters will stop by Bookmans this month to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ghostbusters and to raise awareness for Step Out to Fight Diabetes Walk! Prove you aren't afraid of no ghosts at Bookmans Phoenix on Saturday, August 22nd, 2-4 p.m., and at Bookmans Mesa on Saturday, August 29th, 2-4 p.m. Stop by, bring your cameras, and enter to win fantastic movie-related giveaways!
