Tucson: Tucson Festival of Books
Bookmans is a proud sponsor of the Tucson Festival of Books each year. This year alone, we sponsored the Tucson Festival of Books for $12,500, not including merchandise donations! The festival, held annually at The University of Arizona, brings in hundreds of authors and tens of thousands of visitors each year. Check out our great 2010 Festival of Books video.
Tucson: Late Night Cult Classics at The Loft Cinema
The Loft Cinema is Southern Arizona's only non-profit, community-supported art house theater, which features once and future classics side-by-side and works to promote the appreciation of the art of film. Bookmans is a long-time supporter and friend of the theater, and the sponsor of the Late Night Cult Classics series, which presents the best cult classics in 35mm, every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. for only $5. Tucson: 9 Queens
9 Queens is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to extending the benefits of chess to under-served and under-represented populations. Bookmans is proud to partner with 9 Queens to offer free monthly chess workshops at the Bookmans Low Lounge, which are specifically designed to promote critical thinking skills, academic performance, and self-confidence. Bookmans also is a co-host of All Queens Chess Day each October during National Chess Week. You can check out our video of the first annual All Queens Chess Day here.
Literacy Volunteers of Tucson
Literacy Volunteers of Tucson believes that everyone should have the opportunity to learn to read. They exist to improve the reading, writing and English-speaking skills of adults who read at or below the sixth-grade level, free of charge. Each year, Bookmans underwrites the “Love to Read Fundraising Breakfast,” a powerful, mission-focused event for LVT. We also sponsor the “Stay at Home Tea” which helps collect support and raise awareness of the important work being done in our community. Together, these events raise over $100,000 for LVT. Tucson: Sahuaro Girl Scout Council and Bookmans Low Lounge
Girl Scouts is the world's preminent organization dedicated solely to girls. Sahuaro Girl Scout Council serves over 13,000 girls or more than 10% of all girls aged 5-17 in our community. Bookmans has partnered with the Sahuaro Girl Scout Council to create the Bookmans Low Lounge, a safe space where girls can hang out with other girls, read, have access to computers, and get the support they need.
Phoenix/Mesa: Midnite Movie Mamacita
Bookmans is a proud sponsor of Andrea Bessley-Brown's Midnite Movie Mamacita, a cult film series voted as the "Best Way to Catch a B-Movie" in the Phoenix New Times. You can catch our Grindhouse Redux, Best/Worst Double Features, and more at the Bookmans Underground Cinema, featured at Madcap Theaters in Tempe. Phoenix/Mesa: Rainbows Festival
The annual Rainbows Festival & Street Fair is a celebration of the diversity of the LGBT community. The event is located in historic Heritage Square Park in downtown Phoenix. Each year, the Rainbows Festival draws a crowd in excess of 25,000 gay and lesbians, family members and friends. This is one of the largest LGBT events in the state of Arizona, and Bookmans is proud to be a sponsor. This year, the event has expanded to a full weekend of fun and entertainment. It is both Saturday & Sunday, October 2nd & 3rd.
Phoenix/Mesa: Arizona Derby Dames
This Phoenix-based roller derby organization features "live fast rollergirls" on five teams: The Bombshells, The Coffin Draggers, The Brutal Beauties, The Schoolyard Scrappers, and The Runaway Brides. Phoenix/Mesa: Ignite Phoenix
Bookmans is proud to be a continuing sponsor of Ignite Phoenix. This three-time-a-year event is an information exchange for fostering and inspiring Phoenix’s creative community. In just one evening, you hear 18 passionate speakers from the creative, technical, and business communities talking about their current projects or favorite ideas for just five minutes. Phoenix/Mesa: Guitars in the Classroom
Guitars in the Classroom inspires, trains and equips general classroom teachers and specialists to integrate music and music making across the academic curriculum through “song-based instruction” so students of all ages have the opportunity to learn through making music together in class, everyday. Bookmans is proud to sponsor dozens of teachers each year to participate in this great program.
Flagstaff: Pickin' in the Pines
Bookmans is a proud sponsor of Flagstaff's Pickin' in the Pines, a large bluegrass & acoustic music festival held each year. Named "Special Event of the Year" by the Flagstaff Convention & Visitor's Bureau and Flagstaff Lodging & Restaurant Association, and "Outstanding Arts Event" by Flagstaff Cultural Partners in 2010, Pickin' in the Pines is one of Arizona's largest bluegrass festivals.
Flagstaff: Pride in the Pines
Northern Arizona Pride Association’s mission is to educate, celebrate and increase acceptance and awareness of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ) community of Flagstaff and northern Arizona. Bookmans is proud to be a sponsor of the annual Pride in the Pines festival, which aspires to make a positive difference in the LGBTQ reality while creating a sense of community. It is the mission of the Northern Arizona Pride Association to embrace, promote, and support our cultural diversity, civil, and human rights by fighting discrimination of any kind. Flagstaff: Music in the Classroom
Bookmans has long been a supporter of music education in our schools. That's why we are so proud of our Music in the Classroom program (MIC), in Flagstaff. Since Fall 2009, MIC has worked with popular local musician Chuck Cheesman to provide provide 16 weeks of free music education to hundreds of students in Flagstaff Head Start classrooms.

Bookmans Science Cafe -- Mesa Takes Flight
In partnership with AzSciTechFest and Desert Rivers Audubon Bookmans Mesa is launching a series of Science Cafes to coincide with Mesa Takes Flight.
So what is a Science Cafe?
Science cafés are live—and lively—events that take place in casual settings such as pubs and coffeehouses, are open to everyone, and feature an engaging conversation with a scientist about a particular topic. So come hang out in a relaxing atmosphere to meet local Scientists and Engineers in the name of Science. Learn something new, ask questions, and meet new people! Bring a team to compete for bragging rights with the Science Pub Quiz!
