Music inspires a unique passion in those who truly love it. We collect it, we catalog it, we talk about it, we share it, and we fall like dominoes from one band to another in search of recapturing that moment of recognition certain artists inspire within us upon first listen. We also read about it, from the hardened memoirs of those who barely scraped out a living sharing their work with the world (or who nearly buckled under the weight of that world's expectations), to the ruminations of professional critics who strive to pinpoint what defines genius where genius is subjective.

I had the honor of being there all three days! Every morning, when I walked into the lobby to set up for the day, there was a huge line of incredibly dedicated gamers waiting for the chance at some very large cash prizes. Who said you can’t make money playing video games?

We all had a great time giving away free CDs, t-shirts, yo-yos, candy, magic toys, and gift certificates. Between local bluegrass, rock, and reggae bands, Geoff Jackson strummed away on his purple Hannah Montana guitar while Kate's 8-month-old daughter Maxine clapped along and Miss Regina charmed the gents in her sleeveless Bookmans tee. The in-store performances Thursday and Friday night by Backroads, a bluegrass band, and Rhythm Oasis, a middle-eastern group, were also a real hit!

See what's coming up in July and take a look back at the past few weeks' of free fun happening at your favorite Bookmans location.

The line for badge pick-up stretched well into the lobby for most of the morning, with the action picking up on the floor with the matches for Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and the Bookmans-sponsored Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

If audience members want to find out more, the very last slide is chock full of contact information! 20 slides, 5 minutes, and 18 presenters… Why? It’s a challenge to the presenters to be engaging and, to the point, a perfect concept in simplicity.

Read More...Pride in the Pines 2009 was a huge success in Flagstaff and Bookmans was proud to be a sponsor! The line to get in to the event wrapped around the block much of the day, and everyone seemed to be having a great time eating, drinking (lemonade and beer), listening to great music, and generally being fabulous.

Imagine, if you will, a giant convention center full of massive high definition screens, young enthusiasts, celebrities, booth babes, and people in outlandish costumes, all set to a bone-jarring clash of music and sounds. That’s E3. Sure, it’s not for everyone, but for those who love video games and interactive media, it’s pretty much heaven on earth.

The Civic Orchestra brought out violins, violas, cellos, timpani, xylophone, trumpets and trombones for all of the kids (and plenty of adults) to pick up, hold, feel, and yes, play!

This four-piece band features Bookmans Mesa's assistant manager T.J. Maiden (vocals, rhythm guitar), former Bookmans employee Dan Bruner (lead guitar), Jack Crawford (bass), and Steve Mooney (drums).

Special thanks to the Phoenix Zoo and the Ben's Bells community project for bringing their unique knowledge and a lot of fun to our stores this summer.

Most American publishers - and many international ones - come out and show off their latest offerings in their booths, many of them with authors that will sign books for you or just hang out and chat. Deals are made as sales people and buyers and marketing-types walk the halls looking for the next big thing; authors and lawyers and publishers hammer out rights deals and all that other stuff that goes on behind the scenes which ultimately delivers books into readers’ hands. All of it creates a great buzz of activity that is pretty cool to behold.

The original costume had seen many a community event and in-store appearance, resulting in BookMan looking a little too loved.
