NEWS: They're Queens, They're Furious, They're Tucson Roller Derby

        BY: BOOKMANS

Support Your Derby Girls: Bookmans is now sponsoring all-girl, flat-track roller derby in Tucson. This local league claims five teams, a national ranking, and is a founding member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association. Oh, and they're currently kicking butt in their 2008 season!

Bookmans has signed on as a major sponsor of the Tucson Roller Derby, five years and five teams strong as they reach the middle of their 2008 season. If you've never made your way down to Bladeworld for a bout, we're here to make it easier: starting with the June 21st bout, tickets to all TRD matches can be picked up at any and all Bookmans locations.

Whether you want to watch the local teams - Furious Truckstop Waitresses, Iron Curtain, VICE Squad, or newbies Copper Queens - battle it out for TRD league bragging rights, or experience the TRD Saddletramps regulating on national teams from Seattle, Austin, and San Francisco (just to name a few) at home, we can guarantee you'll have a great time supporting the ladies of local roller derby.

        Via Tucson Roller Derby:
Y'know, they always talk about the boys of summer when they're talkin' about baseball, but what about the girls? Tucson Roller Derby's fifth season is well underway with the Derby equivalent of the all-star break on the quick horizon (read: this weekend). We've seen some upsets and we've hoped for others, but no-one can say that this season's narrative is playing out as the same old, same old.

The B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls from San Fransisco are coming out to play the TRD Saddletramps on Saturday, May 31st. Doors are at 6 p.m., game at 6:30 p.m., and a good time shall be had by all but the losers - and they'll even have a good time getting there, too. We haven't seen the B.A.DGirls since the Dust Devil in 2006, and with Mandi Festo returning to her TRD roots (but in the visitor's box), the game promises to give a thrill to fans on both sides of the track.

SUPPORT your Derby league; wear your TRD shirt, or the team shirt of your choice. Let's show these Bay Area gals what home team spirit is all about! Entertaining signs and banners with cleverly worded puns or rabid enthusiasm are also always welcome - there may be a PRIZE for the cleverest sign (ooo, a prize)!

Make sure you show up early for our Silent Auction before the game; we hear the prizes are many, varied, and valuable - could Polly Graf have donated a tattoo? Rumour has it, and confirmation has just come in from the VICE Squad star herself. Be there or be sad!

You can find Tucson Roller Derby online at www.tucsonrollerderby.com and on MySpace.
