This week the Humane Society received a massive influx of animals after a raid on a puppy mill in northwest Tucson. The organization is in need of the public's help in caring and providing homes for over 700 dogs. Find out how you can help.
On Wed, March 12, 752 small dogs and 36 exotic birds were seized from a property in northwest Tucson in what appears to be a case of animal hoarding. The Humane Society of Southern AZ is in desperate need of financial help to process and care for these animals, many of whom need medical attention or new homes.
Here's how you can help:
DONATE. According to the HSSA, the organization receives no additional government funds to assist in rescue operations like this. Financial contributions are the best resource to help ensure these animals are properly sheltered and cared for. The HSSA is accepting donations online via PayPal, at the HSSA shelter at 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., or by phone at (520) 327-6088. They will also happily accept donations of towels.
ADOPT. According to the HSSA website, "The small dogs in this case are currently being evaluated by HSSA’s veterinary staff, and may soon be available for adoption. There are also dozens of other dogs from various breeds available for adoption." They advise that anyone wishing to adopt must come to the shelter. The birds are not yet up for adoption.
