        BY: BOOKMANS

Bookmans is proud to announce the winner of the Bookmans' Reading Challenge: Schumaker Elementary School!

Experience the excitement as Schumaker Elementary learns they've won $5,000! Courtesy of KOLD.

On May 9, 2007, Bookmans Entertainment Exchange will award Schumaker Elementary School $5,000 for winning the Bookmans' Reading Challenge, which kicked off in February. Over the course of three months, Bookmans challenged students in 25 Tucson Unified School District elementary schools to read as many books as they could.  When the challenge ended on May 1st, students had read more than 100,000 books!

Schumaker Elementary School won the Challenge by having the highest average number of books read per student. Schumaker's 331 students read almost 13,000 books. Bob Schlesinger, owner of Bookmans Entertainment Exchange, will present the $5,000 check to the principal of Schumaker at an awards ceremony at the school on May 9th at 12:45 p.m.

Schools who participated in the Reading Challenge were: Anna Henry, Blenman, Booth-Ficket Magnet, C. E. Rose, Carrillo Intermediate Magnet, Collier, Corbett, Cragin, Drachman Primary Magnet, Fruchthendler, Hollinger, Jefferson Park, John B. Wright, Lineweaver, Lynn/Urquides, Miller, Robins, Safford, Sam Hughes, Schumaker, Soleng Tom, Van Buskirk, Van Horne, Warren and Whitmore.

The top 4th/5th grade class for the month of April was from C.E. Rose, with an average of 35 books per student!

Congratulations to all the participating schools. All of the students are winners. They did a remarkable job contributing to the total number of 100,000 books read during the Bookmans' Reading Challenge! In addition we would like to honor the following schools with a $100 gift certificate to Bookmans for their impressive totals during the Challenge: Anna Henry, Booth-Fickett, C.E. Rose, Carrillo, Drachman, Hollinger, Lynn Urqides, and Safford.
